3 Top Benefits & Uses Of Badam Pisin | Almond Gum | Badam Gum | Badam Gondh

Badam pisin | Badam gum | Almond gum is the natural gum obtained from the sweet almond tree. It is called almond gum in English, badam gondh in Hindi and badam pisin in Tamil. The botanical name of sweet almond tree is Prunus Dulcis. It should not be confused with Indian badam tree whose botanical name is Terminalia Catappa. It is a wonderful natural body coolant that we should make use of during scorching summer. Nowadays jelly's are sold in different shapes and sizes and most kids love artificial jelly's. My sister's daughters both love jelly so much that each time before I visit them, if I ask them what they want they will reply in an instant that they want jelly. The problem with store bought jelly's is the amount of added colors and flavorings in them. Since manufacturers want to capture the attention of kids, too much of artificial colors and flavorings are added. It is alright if they are consumed once in a while, but having it very often, which normally most children do is not good for them. Instead why not introduce them to a natural jelly that has wonderful health benefits? Badam pisin has these wonderful health benefits 1. It is an ingredient that keeps the body cool. It is a perfect ingredient to use during scorching summer to keep the body cool. If you are a person who suffer excessive body heat (red eyes, burning sensation in the body are some of the symptoms) this natural gum will work well to get rid of it. 2. It helps cure stomach burns and also heals stomach ulcers. 3. It is a good home remedy for dysentery (when had alone) and is said to have cholesterol lowering properties. I make a healthy cooling drink at home with badam pisin which is a very good home remedy for ulcers and stomach burn. It is also free of colors and additives and can be given to young children very safely. This drink also can be served as a dessert especially after serving spicy foods, it will greatly prevent heartburn and acidity. But please don't over consume this badam pisin on a daily basis as it might prevent nutrient absorption.....

METHOD:
1. Soak badam pisin in a cup of water for 24 hours. One small piece will yield a cup of jelly, it swells up really well. I also find that soaking for 24 hours gets it completely softened and of perfect texture.

2. Soak basil seeds | sabja seeds in hot water for 15 minutes and strain. In the serving bowl, add the swollen sabja seeds. You can read about sabja seeds here.

3. Top it up with homemade gulkand | rose petal jam. I have a recipe for it here.

4. Add the rose syrup, I used homemade rose syrup using pesticide free rose petals.

5. Add chilled whole milk on top, I used organic grass fed milk from our farm.

6. Top it up with softened badam pisin. Your delicious drink is ready!

NOTES:
  • This drink tastes absolutely delicious and is very very effective in easing stomach burn.
  • The amount of each ingredient to be used is individual preference, add more of the ingredients you like.
  • For children, milk can be thickened a bit before adding by heating it in low flame for a few minutes. It will make the drink thicker and creamier.
  • This drink is best had during summer and please don't over consume badam pisin on a daily basis.
  • Since no color is added to any of the ingredients used, the mixture is white in color..
  • For children, you can also serve the soaked and chilled badam pisin jelly topped up with just homemade rose syrup.

    1. Unfortunately consuming badam pisin will not help heal anal fissure. I would suggest triphala guggulu as it is very effective for treating the inflammation & pain very effectively, it will also treat constipation very effectively. You can consult an ayurvedic doctor about the correct dosage for it. Externally I would suggest sitz bath with alum crystals and few drops of unrefined coconut oil...

If you use rice cooker, you can easily make hand pounded rice which is very good and can be had along with different kinds of dal everyday which is also very easy to cook. Broken wheat upma, millets (which takes very little time to cook) stir fried with with veggies and sundal are all very healthy choices that can be made very easily...

    1. Wash the badam pisin once in water and soak it overnight, soaking it overnight will get badam pisin completely softened. Since badam pisin does not have any taste, I would suggest taking it like mentioned above. You can consume it weekly thrice. It is high in fiber, over consumption will lead to side effects (since it is high in fiber it will prevent nutrient absorption)...
