5 Top Hair Benefits & Uses Of Garlic For Hair Growth & Stop Hair Loss

Garlic has been used to treat hair problems from ancient times. In our family we use garlic when we have oil bath, it is tradition that we have been following for many many years. My husband's late grandmother was an authority in home remedies and she lived to the ripe old age of 97. She used to be very particular about the way the oil for hair bath should be prepared, even when she was in her nineties she used to personally monitor how the oil was prepared :). The oil was always made with a blend of unrefined sesame oil, garlic, peppercorns, dry ginger and cumin seeds. We still follow it religiously to this day, traditions like this should be treasured and passed on from one generation to the other else it will get lost very soon. After having oil bath with this mixture you will rarely have scalp infections or itchiness or dandruff and you will also feel very relaxed and refreshed because of the massage. Though garlic has a strong unpleasant smell that many don't like, it does wonders to scalp if applied regularly. Here are some of the hair benefits of applying garlic for hair: 1. Garlic For Scalp Infections: Garlic has anti bacterial properties which makes it very very effective for treating scalp infections. That is why when we regularly use garlic for the scalp like for oil bath we rarely get scalp infections. 2. Garlic For Hair Growth: Garlic is rich in sulfur which gives it's unique strong pungent smell and selenium, both very essential for promoting new hair growth. When we apply garlic juice on the scalp it not only strengthens the existing hair roots it also helps promote new hair growth 3. Garlic For Dandruff: Garlic when used on the scalp is a very very good remedy for dandruff. Though it is very unpleasant to use garlic on our scalp due to the smell, it is an effective remedy for dandruff and itchy scalp. 4. Garlic For Hair Loss: When we apply garlic oil on the scalp it increases blood circulation in the area, prevents all scalp infections, strengthens hair roots and greatly reduces hair fall. 5. Garlic For Alopeica Areata: Applying raw garlic is one of the best home remedies for treating alopecia areata. Though it takes weeks of regular application to see results, it does work. You can find the study that proves it here. If you are suffering from alopeica areata, I would suggest applying the raw juice which is very very effective. If you can't bear the raw smell, try the garlic oil made with virgin coconut oil and raw garlic regularly. For regular general use, I would suggest using garlic weekly twice during oil bath, it will greatly help prevent all scalp infections. I have given the method for making garlic oil and garlic juice for hair below.....

3. GARLIC FOR HAIR: GENERAL USE FOR EVERYONE

For general use, I would suggest adding garlic to the oil that we use for taking oil bath. I would suggest men have their oil bath on Saturdays and women on Fridays as per the tradition. Make the oil and while it is still warm, massage it well all over the scalp, better still ask someone in your family to massage it gently for you, wait for an hour and have your hair wash. You can find the recipe for making it here.

    1. We use curry leaves as a daily application oil and it has a pleasant smell. Adding garlic to it will spoil the smell and you can use it only as a pre-shampoo treatment.
