Hi!
Thank you for visiting my blog. I am Ramya Venkateshwaran. I live in a small village in Tamil Nadu, India. I am a house wife and I have lived in a village all my life, except for the time I spent in hostel.
All my life, I have seen my family members and neighbors use simple home remedies for all ailments (from sickness to skin care). I didn’t give it much thought until I got sick with abscess. I kept going to one doctor after the another and swallowing huge amounts of medicines for almost two years. One day a neighbor in our village suggested turmeric. I was skeptical at first, but ever since I started using turmeric after my bath, I stopped getting abscess. It was such an eye opener for me. After that I became obsessed in getting to know all the remedies that are practiced in our village.
I have collected recipes from skin care to common ailments like cold, headache etc. These remedies have been used in our village for years. The ingredients are usually common kitchen ingredients but some recipes call for some herbs, which you can easily get, if you visit any village. Most of the recipes sound very simple, but they really work their magic. But please be patient when using home remedies, as it does not give instant results most of the time. One of our farm workers, who is very good with home remedies and identifying natural herbs summed it up beautifully about home remedies in Tamil – ” Nallakum annal ver arukkum” meaning though it takes time, it will solve the root cause of the problem.
Each and every remedy has been tried by me before I record it in this blog. Though I have recorded all these remedies, the real credit goes to my elders who still keep up with the old traditions and my husband who encouraged me to start blogging. I also want to thank Nags of “Edible garden” blog for helping me with my blogging problems.
Both my parents and in laws are farmers and most of these herbs are found in our farm, but you can grow these herbs easily in small pots too. Once you get the hang of using home remedies in your day to day life, you will start enjoying it immensely. I think if we keep following our age old traditions, we will remain much more healthy. I will be very happy even if at least one person benefits out of this blog.
Once I started collecting the remedies, I wanted to share it with everyone, so this blog was born. I am also very interested in making my own homemade cosmetics and beauty products. I have been making them for years now and you will find all the recipes of the products I have tried over the years in the blog. I really enjoy collecting all these recipes, photographing and writing for the blog. This blog also keeps me from missing my son, who is in a boarding school. I use a “Nikon D5100” digital camera to photograph the pictures.
This site is open to comments and your comments are very important to me, but I request you to be considerate when you leave your comments in this site. I think even one positive comment will keep me going. If you have any doubts regarding any of the remedies posted, I will be happy to answer it to the best of my knowledge. Since I want to reply to each comment personally, please bear with me if it takes sometime for me to reply..
You can also keep in touch with me through facebook , Google+, Twitter and pinterest.

Hi, can you please tell the remedy to remove the hairs permanently from upper lips & chins my sister has this hair problem she is suffering very badly for this & even to tips to avid smell from under arms.
I will post remedies for it soon Ramya…….
Hi, I have heard they use turmeric either dry or fresh ( manjal) to rub the arms legs underarms etc, what is it good for? if we cannot get this can we use turmeric powder sold in groceries?
Hi, Turmeric paste is an antiseptic, it keeps the skin blemish free. But if you have dry skin try using it with yogurt, as turmeric paste alone can be quite drying on the skin, if used for a long time. You can use good quality turmeric powder too.
Hi Ramya, Thanks for sharing all these wonderful home remedies. I have been searching for such home treatments for a long time and your site is like a treasure box, all in one package. Kudus to your effort to share with everyone, keep up the great work and i am sure many are benefited.

Dear Ramya ,I most rarely leave comments on any blog but i was compelled to appreciate your effort. I have been regularly watching your videos on youtube and find them extremely good but most important thing is your attitude when you speak there. The blog has been well written with some very nice pictures and I appreciate the efforts taken in preserving the age old practices which usually gets lost in the modern era.

Hello, I am also from Coimbatore. Have been following your blog for some time. The write ups are very interesting. Love the pictures too. Have a small garden, plants in pots. Would like to grow more herbs (have a few). But unable to get them. Agriculture college sales department closes early and they are not open on Sundays. We have a wonderful source for plants, which working people are unable to make use of. Do you know any other place we can get herbs?
Hi Ranjini, Since I live in a farm, I get all the herbs from the farm itself. The nurseries in Coimbatore stock up very few herbs, if you want medicinal plants visit a near by village during a week end, I am sure you can collect all the medicinal herbs there….
Thanks Ramya
……Hi Ramya , do you have your blog in Tamil ? I want to pass your info to a Tamil friend .Thanks …… ! ! . . .
Hi, I don't have a blog in Tamil but I will try enabling the translation for this blog in Tamil….
Wonderful Blog Ramya. Did a quick scan of all your face book posts and subscribed to news letter as well. Great collection and nice to see you are updating it regularly …Hats off to you…
Very useful info.
Do you know any alternative for root canal treatment and other dental related problems? Thanks
I am sorry, I don't know any alternatives for root canal treatment but you can find lot of remedies for treating and preventing other dental related problems in the blog like homemade tooth powder, neem mouth wash that prevents mouth odor, etc…
Perhaps try Raw, Organic Coconut Oil? I don't know about root canal but I had excruciating pain which did not improve after visiting a dentist. Now at the first sign of trouble, after oil pulling I first hold some xylitol (made from birch NOT corn) in my mouth (just where it hurts) and then Raw, Organic, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and this seems to prevent it getting worse, and it goes away after a few days of repeating this treatment. I did this daily for months in the first instance. It reduced the pain and eventually after months of chewing only on the good side of my mouth it gradually got better. What a relief ! https://www.wildturmeric.net/2014/03/homemade-virgin-coconut-oil.html http://www.xylitolshop.co.uk/about-us-1-w.aspWonderful blog, Ramya. I look forward to reading more when I have time.Thank you!
Hi Rampriya. Thank you for this wonderful blog. I am battling a stubborn cold and will persevere in treating it with garlic, turmeric etc. I will try your mustard poultice as well. Best wishes.

I am very happy that you like the blog 🙂 Try using homemade bath powder for him daily, it is very gentle on the skin and is perfect for babies (you can find the recipe in the blog). It will help even out the skin tone and massage his skin daily with fresh Aloe Vera gel. These two things are the best and safe skin treatments for babies. Hope this helps….
I found your website while I was researching about the Soapnut for washing hair and as laundry soap. I quickly glance through your website and I really like your remedies. Thank you for sharing your experience and back home remedies. With all the commercial products(tons of chemicals) our health was effected very badly. That's why we are been seeing lot of deceases. I started getting into organicnatural products in our house. Slowly I do want to get into replace everything in my house. Thank you and keep up the good work. Now you are in my browser favorite.
Hi Ramya,You have a wonderful blog!!! I landed in your blog while researching about soapnut. Even I am fond off using natural products.Slowly I am making my family to adopt it.My Home remedies kept my toddler free from cold and cough for 1yr.Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I am also from Coimbatore. You stay in which place in Coimbatore?Would like to visit you in person.
Hi, I am very glad that you like the blog and I am very very happy that you are interested in home remedies too…
I live in a small village that is around 50 kms away from Coimbatore….
Hi Ramya, where can I get kaolin clay in Coimbatore please?
Hi Ranjini, Usually they are already premixed and sold as clay mask. You can try in Center point shop in Lakshmi complex, but I doubt whether you will get pure kaolin clay there. If you don't get it there try online in ebay…..
Can you plzzzz give me your mail ID?
Dear SV, I don't check the mail often as it is getting very difficult for me to answer every mail along with blog comments, face book messages and you tube comments everyday. If you want to write to me personally, you can contact me anytime through face book message. I hope you understand….
Ok. I can understand your situation.
Hi Ramya, You are doing a wonderful service to all by recollecting the natures gift to human being. I am 52 yrs and have some brown patches on my face. Is there any way to get rid of this permanently? Pls suggest some herbal remedy for this. NA
Thanks a lot, your kind words mean a lot to me..If you are using chemical dye regularly, it will increase the skin's sensitivity to sun in some people causing brown patches. The best thing is to try natural hair dyes and apply sunscreen regularly. To get rid of the existing brown patches, try applying either vitamin c serum from the blog or pure Aloe Vera gel on the patches regularly for a few weeks. You can also try apple cider vinegar, these three are the best in getting rid of brown patches…
Hi Ramya,Thank u for your prompt reply. I will try to follow your suggestions and will get back to you soon. Thanks once again. Keep yr service going.NA

Hi Ramya..I am following your blog for last few months and I want to tell you how much I appreciate your efforts and dedication in bringing the traditional wisdom for common good.First time I saw your blog, I was impressed by your well researched and meaningful articles. I often quote your example to my mother who is trying to figure out her life again after her three kids has grown up. Your passion is contagious as I have started replacing my daily use thing with traditional and homemade ones. Please keep up the good work.I also want to know about different types of clay pots and how to use them for preparing meals and their daily care.Kind regardsSonal
Dear Sonal, Your kind encouraging words made my day 🙂 I will try to collect all the information about clay pots and post sooner…
Hi Ramya..thanks a lot for the blog which is very useful and getting back to our previous generation's precious medicines with no side effects. Am also from a village near madukkarai. I have a question to you, my husband's hair is completely white(28 yrs old). Can we cure it at this situation ? I saw some preventive measures of grey hair with curry leaves, but not sure if this will be helpful in my husband's case.
Hi Chithra, Usually curry leaf hair oil is very effective only when the premature greying is in starting stages ( I have seen my neighbor reverse her premature greying using it) and I am afraid it won't help your husband much…
ok thanks. If you come to know, please write in this blog. It will be very helpful to most of us who are using artificial colors.
Hi Ramya, I appreciate your efforts and thank you very much for these.I generally use tablets for even a slightest issue. But after reading I feel there are better ways just by following simple things. I have started following certain suggessions of yours for gastric or sabja seeds for constipation, using amla juice etc.Can you please suggest if there are any home remedies for urin infection for women. Also is there a way to search your site for specific requirements.God bless you and hope you provide more and more of home remedy options.Thank you / Sree
Hi Sir,Thanks a lot for your blessings, it means a lot to me. Barley water works well for treating urine infection in women (recipe in the blog). There is a search box in the side bar, please use that to search for specific requirements…
hi, though this is a very old question but i wanted to share my experience with urine infection! Drinking organic pure unsweetened cranberry juice helps a lot. Also drink lots of plain water. just sharing my 2 cents
Hi Ramya,One more questions…..is there any remedy for white patches on face and body (leucoderma). Please advise. Also any possibility I can get in touch with you over mail or phone to discuss more. Thanks, my mail ID is sreenivasan.1968@gmail.com
Sir, you can leave a private message in wildturmeric face book page, I will be checking them everyday. I am sorry, I don't know any effective home remedy for leucoderma…
Its a wonderful blog, Ramya.
Good job, great work, just love it, can you post on how to make bathing soap at home? Thanks
Hi RampriyaYou have done a wonderful job. I am married and settled in Coimbatore for nearly 10 yrs now and was surprised to see many recipes which I have never heard off in Chennai plry the different dishes which people make here with Saami, Varahu, Cholam, etc etc. My husband is very fond of these native dishes and started trying my hands in those. And now that I have found your blog with other DIYs in Health & Beauty remedies, which I am basically interested, I am finding some time (since I m a officer goer and taking care of my 6 yr old daughter) to do at least few of them. Keep up your good work!! Will be refering to your blog often. Ranjini Manoharan
I keep putting it off because I am reluctant to use lye in the kitchen. But I will definitely try making soap sooner and post it in the blog…
My grandson aged two years is having constipation. He is in US.he is a poor eater also. What is a home remedy for this .Maya
Hi Maya mam, I am very sorry for the late reply. My son had constipation problem when he was a baby but once I started giving him whole grain foods daily, the problem solved on it's own. If he is taking packaged cereals or white bread try giving him whole foods like oatmeal or ragi porridge (It just takes a few minutes to prepare). I was giving my son ragi porridge along with jaggery and few drops of ghee everyday and this greatly solved the problem. Also try to give him raisins everyday, this will also greatly help…
Hi ramya,i love ur blog!ur love and enthusiasm abt ayurveda has convinced me to maybe try the arya vaidya sala in coimbatore,i hv been to the one in delhi,it was comfortable and clean,i want a change of scene so i hv settled on three options, coimbator e, ernakulam or chennai?which can u recommend btw the three?

Good effort Mam. Keep going 🙂
Hi Ramya,I'm Sri, I live in the US. This is a good example of how the world is becoming small and truly global! I actually stumbled upon your website while searching for slaked lime properties but I'm so happy I found this site. This is a fantastic site and it's really good to know & use (at least for me) all the natural remedies (or wonders?) as much as possible. Thank you for being very generous in sharing all this knowledge. You are a very nice person and so does your family! God bless all!

Hi Ramya,Can you please suggest Ayurveda medicine for "cervical spondylitis"Thanks Ravi
Hi, All the remedies I know are only to treat the pain like cold compress, Epsom salt bath which you can find in the blog. Combining these remedies with yoga will give good relief…
Dear Ramya, love this blog exactly what many of us need at this age. Especially for a mom like me it gives a lot of comfort. I have a suggestion if you are open to it. I remember my patti making kashayam and Lehyam at home not only during sickness but generally as part of daily/monthly/seasonal rituals. It could be a weekly oil bath or specific lehyams to be given after attaining puberty delivery etc. Many of us don't know these things. My patti Leelavathy is no more but I am sure you will be able to help us with those. It might be as simple as an ennaikuliyal, but I don't know which days for boys, what ingredients to be used etc. This is just an example. I am sure many more are there which our older generation used to follow, which would help our future generation. Please consider sharing them too. Nandhini
Dear Nandhini, I am so very glad that you like the blog. Thanks a lot for your great suggestions, I will post about them in the blog sooner. I have already posted on oil bath, please check it out here: https://www.wildturmeric.net/2013/02/indian-head-massage.html
Dear Ramyathank you for this wonderful blog.this blog is full of informative. I am a mother for 1.5 months cute baby girl. My husband got dry skin on left hand little finger from almost 4 years and now it gradually spreaded on the whole little finger and also on the right leg ankle. I have photos of the same and would mail you them if you share your email id. so that you can suggest me a home remedy for skin dry and patchy.Doing a wonderful job ramyaBest wishes and keep going Thank youPoorni.
Dear Poorni, I would suggest Aloe Vera oil from the blog for your husband, it is very very effective for skin diseases. The oil will stink but is very very effective, ask him to use it regularly. I will be very happy if you can send the pictures through my facebook message box: https://www.facebook.com/wildturmeric

Deep hot oil hair treatment works best for preventing split ends. Warm any unrefined oil, apply half of it all over the scalp and hair and leave it for 30 minutes. Take a thick turkey towel, dip it in hot water squeeze well and then tie over the hair. Remove the towel once the towel losses it's heat, then apply the rest of the oil and then have hair wash and condition your hair. Continue doing this treatment regularly weekly twice……
I am so impressed with your work, your dedication and your beautiful attitude. I am now a big fan of your site.

Hi Ramya Mam,I am a silent follower of your fabulous blog.. I have few questions. Please answer them if you are free.1. Is it absolutely necessary to apply Moisturizer and Sun Screen while going out? I sweat a lot. And we do see commercials saying Vitamin D is necessary for many health benefits and even in India, people have Vit D deficiency (I am in Chennai). If we apply sun screen, aren't we missing out on that? Is it like compromising health for beauty? Please explain. 2. Hi Ramya,Amazing blog with precious remedies. I have been a campaigner for home remedies for a long time. I bounced out of an auto immune disease just by my belief system and home made simple common sense solutions. your recipes and ways makes it all the more easier for people to go natural. Thank you. I stumbled across your website in search of weight loss. And i am trying to get onto a routine by imbibing certain solutions you have provided. My main issues is cravings & hence snacking. Is there any solution to feel full healthily? I very well understand weight loss is a journey and of course diet and exercise plays a major role. Would be glad if you could put up like a plan inculcating all the things a person could do for weight loss. So that its easier to pick and choose whatever suits them the best. Ancient lifestyle was the best. Again thanks a ton. Appreciate your help. LoveRoopa

Dear Ramya,Your reply to all is very useful.I visited a ayurvedic physician for my Vertigo and he diagnosed me as body nervous system imbalance. I have been doing the therapy at his center and he has prescribed me with Brahmi and Ashwagandha. I do not take it as I do not want to depend too much on medicine. May I ask do Brahmi and Ashwagandha act like anti-depressant that once you have taken it, you cannot live without it as you need to take it almost daily or else your condition may be worsen. I am worry about the side effect. However, after researching more on these two herbs, i decided to give it a try on Himalaya brand. I am just hoping there aren't any heavy metals contain in Himalaya products.Thank you.

Hi Ramya. I came across your wonderful blog while I was looking to make ginger powder at home. I am from South India too and admire the initiative a housewife like yourself has taken to bring this information to the world from a small village in India.. and using your own photography too. I use a Nikon D5100 myself. You are an inspiration and even though I am aware of home remedies, I have never tried to incorporate them into daily living, until I read your inspirational blog. Mam please do this favour.. kindly say me how to make ura marundhu after head bath in detail.am waiting for ur kind reply mam.
I should say your blog is an eye opener for me. Many natural remedies which we were using as kids were all forgotten as we became busy in our daily lives. But after reading your blog I recollected everything, started growing many plants, and slowly trying to replace all chemical usages to natural ones…starting from arappu for hairwash which i used as a kid, but now forgot that….It gives me immense satisfaction and helps me to live along with Nature…Thanks a lot Ramya and hats off to you for following these many natural remedies, even in this so called modern world, where chemicals dominate our lives, and the steps you have taken to share this to everyone..
I am not sure if I have commented on your blog before. I come to your blog every now and then to search for specific items – remedies, treatments etc. I have never been in a village, born and brought up in a big city, but I am a strong advocate of natural Indian (Tamil) home remedies. For example, I am a strong advocate of weekly twice oil baths, which sadly, even my daughter does not follow !That aside, I have recently switched to cooking with traditional equipment – kal chatti, man paanai, vengala paanai, eeya sombu, ammi kuzavi etc. I find that food tastes much better when made using these. Perhaps you have written about these in your blog somewhere already, but if you haven't perhaps you can write about these and spread awareness about traditional cookware? We can not only foster health but also preserve our culture through the use of such implements.Kudos to you and this blog.
Dear Ramya,Wonderful blog with more informative and useful remedies using natural things. Your are doing a great job by bringing back our forgotten traditional way of living. Your are blessed to live in a village near by a farm. I really appreciate your wide knowledge on these herbs, awesome work keep going. Thanks a lot and All the very best.

Dear Rayma, I must come to your blog to visit as I have just scanned over it, just beautiful. I found your name on the Help Forum for Blogger. I am having the exact same problem you had. My first 7 years worth of comments are missing, Thousands of them are no longer seen on dashboard, only most recent 1000. I had my 9 year blog anniversary on Sunday and found this out. I see that you have switched to Word Press. Did Blogger ever find the cause? I am so afraid to switch anything and take risk. Thank you so much. I guess you can contact me by leaving a comment as I have for you. I also no longer receive email notifications from Blogger. Huge Sigh~

I would suggest asking him to chew on 1 tender betel leaf alone, it is a good remedy for tonsillitis. Make sure to give him only tender betel leaves else it will be way too spicy for him….

Hi Ramya
I am an eager follower of your posts. I wanted to know if you can suggest any herbal drink for consumption early in the morning instead of tea or coffee. I m a coffee lover but would like to kick this habit of coffee on an empty stomach. Warm water/honey/lemon does not agree with me. TIA
Please, my question was simply can you use the licorice cream safely under eye. I have gone back numerous times in hope of a response. You replied to the remark below and above mine. Why ignore my question?

I am so sorry, some times I don’t get notified of a comment (I answer in the comment section in the YouTube creator page and not under the video) that is why I miss answering a few comments. You can use it safely under eyes, it is one of my favorite creams to use…..:)

Hello Ramya, I am really very much fascinated with the way you are serving people for free of cost. I call this service because, almost every human being here on the earth is suffering from some or the other insecurity, and as much as it is not supposed to be, it is unfortunately due to their looks. When one tries working on one’s looks, one is automatically gaining a lot of confidence and is moving ahead in life more successfully. So thankyou very much for the great attitude, patience and good nature behind the intentions of your channels and blogs.
I am Jahnavi from Chennai. I basically am from Andhra, and I’ve inherited really good hair genes from my elders. But after moving to Chennai, my hair started falling very badly. It has become 1/4th of what I used to have, and I have been observing that few partition areas of my scalp have started shining, which might indicate partition balding which is giving me a lot of worry. I tried your flax seed, onion juice recipe and my hair felt healthier. But I still wonder if there is any recipe with which we can successfully regrow hair on bald spots and can make our hair thicker, denser and stronger. Please please help me.
Thanks again for all the immense love you have towards all of us.
Hi Ramya,
I started watching you beauty videos recently, can’t wait to try the Skin lightening fenugreek base cream. My major concern is, I have a boy who is 7 years old and we have been battling eczema for the past 3 years really bad. We have been consulting Dermatologist with topical steroids and finally landed up in Laser Therapy. His eczema would flare up so badly on his palm and feet that it would bleed and makes him hard to walk. Any suggestions for treating eczema through creams, soap, body massage oils naturally would be of great help. Thank you in Advance.
Dear Ramya
I saw your recipe for fenugreek, dry amla and curry leaves recipes but cannot locate it now.
Do you know of any remedy for arthritus

Please don’t promote fairness as something to be desired. you are perpetuating stereotypes and lighter skin is more beautiful than dark skin tone.
Love from SINGAPORE! Your blog is amazing. It’s a joy reading all the information you’re sharing with us. I love natural remedies which is a gift from mother nature. Great Work. Keep it Up!
Your words and the reason for writing your blog posts are very sincere. Thanks for your beautiful work. I’m sure it will benefit hundreds if not thousands. I am a doctor (;MBBS MD) having been working abroad for many years but I understand and appreciate the benefits of ancient wisdom in herbal medicine.
A true knowledgeable person always welcomes beneficial knowledge from all quarters and many Allopathy doctors appreciate Ayurvedha and Siddha medicine because these traditional village medicine which you talk about are mentioned in Ayurvedic and Siddha texts written thousands of years ago.
Recently I bought a property near the cauvery river and I have built a farm house with a 10 thousand square feet herbal garden where I grow herbs fruits flowers for my use. I also have three desi kangeyam pasu maadu ( desi cows).
The beauty of the garden and the fresh veggies and fruits and flowers we get is beyond words. When we visit India my farm house is my detox spa and resort all rolled into one.
The difference is telling. I am free from any chronic disease I don’t take any medications look young and feel healthy. Most of my doctor friends who are younger than me look ten years older and take meds for diabetes hypertension cholesterol and thyroid everyday to mention a few maladies.
Nature has given us enough gifts it is our foolishness we ignored it due to our lack of knowledge and aplanned propaganda which completely wiped out the importance of Ayurveda and yoga and Siddha medicine from our learning.
In Germany Switzerland Australia and USA we have Western educated scientists doing research on Indian herbs and medicine whereas we in India keep mocking our traditional medicine.
I don’t discount the beauty of western science. Don’t get me wrong. I’m a very successful doctor with a busy medical practice but I choose what is best for my body is hich I call holistic medicine.
In simple words if you have an acute problem western medicine works well. For long term treatment traditional village medicine ( ayurvedha and Siddha medicine) works well.
Sorry for my long and rambling post but I truly appreciate the beautiful work you are doing Ma’am and consider my comment as a doctor validating and appreciating your beautiful work. We need more people like you coming forward and writing and posting such beautiful stuff.
My appreciation to your husband in law’s parents and your son for all of them inspiring and helping you to do this.
Keep wrong keep inspiring
Many thanks
Dr Surya
Hello Ramya garu, in my childhood I don’t have any moles on my face but presently my face is full of moles mostly on nose, around nose. I don’t know how they developed suddenly at my teens. Iam looking forward for a natural remedy. Kindly help me.
How to contact you to buy a product. Please share email
Great effort madam.
Village or city but your knowledge and applications are stunning.
Fantastic Blog Madam! I was looking for cures to arthiritis after trying the tea of the moringa tree, still drinking the tea. It will take a while as all herbal remedies do. Then i looked up mudakatraan which i believe is another name. i have some seeds sent to me from Singapore hopefully these two herbals and hand exercises will help alleviate the pain. I cannot unscrew bottle caps yet but getting there. The plant looks a lot like another that is growing in the wild in Australian tropics!
I am fascinated by your remedies and hope you carry on. There are so many asian remedies from herbs and not many are sharing them. Thank you and keep going!

Here’s something my wife tried and said it helped her. Soak 1 spoon of dhaniya (coriander seeds) in 1 tumbler of water at night. Leave it overnight. Next day morning, just filter out the dhaniya and drink the water. I think she did this for a 3-4 weeks before seeing results.
