Coconut water has amazing health benefits and medicinal uses. Writing about coconut gives me so much pleasure because all my life I have lived in a coconut farm and have been using it every single day of my life. I truly value all the benefits that coconut offers.

Coconut Water Health Benefits:

1. Coconut Water For Electrolytes:

Coconut water is high in electrolytes, and it keeps our body hydrated and is the perfect sports drink. It also keeps our liver healthy. Instead of taking sugary drinks after sports, try coconut water, it replenishes lost fluids very quickly. Encourage even children to consume coconut water after their sports, it will prevent dehydration.

2. Coconut Water For Weight Loss:

When we are trying to lose weight many of us cut calories drastically and start exercising more suddenly. And since we are on very restricted calories, many of us don’t bother about calculating our macros and vitamins and eating accordingly. This results in vitamin deficiencies.

Which in turn leads to hair loss, lack luster skin and above all tiredness and slowing down of metabolism. When you consume health drinks like coconut water that has few calories per cup but is filled with vitamins and minerals, it will greatly prevent vitamin deficiencies common during weight loss. Try to consume fresh coconut water if you can than bottled ones.

Coconut works well for acidity and heart burn and is the best home remedy for acid reflux. Since coconut water is rich in natural enzymes, it soothes irritated stomach very effectively. When you are having acid reflux, try to cut back on caffeine and drink a cup of coconut water everyday.

Pregnant women can consume coconut water safely and it will prevent them from acidity and heartburn that is usually common during the last trimester. It will also give them the essential nutrients and prevent tiredness and dehydration. Some studies show that coconut water can also prevent morning sickness in pregnant women.

Coconut water both when consumed internally and applied topically does wonders to skin. You can use coconut water to mix dry ingredients for any face pack which will result in brighter skin tone. Coconut water also makes a great cleanser that can be used by all types of skin.

Coconut water contains lauric acid which has anti microbial and anti fungal properties. When we apply coconut water on the scalp, it treats all minor scalp infections. You can either apply it directly or you can do what I regularly do- grind fresh Aloe Vera gel with coconut water and apply on the scalp. This is a very good hair mask that treats all scalp infections

7. Coconut Water For Babies:

Coconut water is a very safe ingredient that can be consumed by everyone including babies. I was reading an article few days back and it stated that coconut water can be safely given even to three day old babies. Regular drinking of tender coconut water improves the immunity. If had regularly from young age, it will keep them healthy and prevent deficiencies.

8. Coconut Water For Painful Urination:

This remedy (step by step instruction below) treats burning sensation when passing urine. Painful urination/ Neer kaduppu occurs when the body is severely dehydrated or when a person has urinary tract infections.

This happens during hot summer months, when we don’t hydrate our body well. The urine will be concentrated and it will have a mild yellow color. For this remedy palm candy is added to tender coconut water and consumed for at least three days.

If the painful urination still persists, it can also be an underlying symptom to major illness like diabetes, kidney stones, etc. Please consult your doctor without any further delay.

Side Effects of Coconut Water:

Coconut water is high in potassium and if you consume too much of coconut water in a single day, it might cause low blood pressure.

How To Consume Coconut Water?

 METHOD:
1. This is palm candy and we call it “Panakarkandu” in Tamil.

2. Powder the palm candy in a mortar and pestle.

3. Break open a tender coconut. We use this instrument called “Koduval” to break it. Don’t throw away the broken top part.

 4. Add powdered palm sugar to the tender coconut water and stir well.

5. Close with the broken top part and let it sit for at least three to four hours, before drinking it. Continue drinking this for at least three to four days for best results.

NOTES:

  • This drink is very hydrating and very healthy as palm candy is rich in iron.
  • Wait for at least three to four hours before drinking it.
  • People who are into sports can drink this after a strenuous workout to replenish the body fluids.
