8 Amazing Benefits & Uses Of Lemongrass Tea for Hair, Skin & Health

Last week when we went on a drive to Valparai, I found wild lemongrass and I was very happy. Wild lemongrass has a strong beautiful smell. I have been reading about the benefits of lemongrass tea and even one of our relatives, who drinks this tea regularly was urging me to try it for a long time. When I first made it, I was so happily surprised at how good it tasted. I am so hooked on to this lemongrass tea, that I have started growing lemongrass in my garden. Lemongrass tea has a long list of health benefits, if consumed regularly: 1. Lemongrass tea For Weight Loss: Drinking lemongrass tea is a natural way to lose weight. It also treats headache and body pain when we suffer from cold and flu. 3. Lemongrass Tea For Sleep: People who suffer from insomnia will greatly benefit, if they take this tea before going to bed. Lemongrass Tea For Constipation: Lemongrass tea keeps the body hydrated and it also regulates the intestinal functions thus treating constipation. Lemon tea also aids in digestion and the antioxidants in the tea helps to keep our body healthy. To make this tea, take lemongrass and cut the bottom fleshy part into small pieces. Pound the cut pieces and ginger in a mortar and pestle. Boil water and add the pounded mixture, let it boil till the color of the water changes. Remove, strain and add honey and drink it warm. Lemongrass and ginger are a match made in heaven and I strongly insist that you try this lemongrass tea at home.

METHOD:
1. Cut the required amount of lemongrass. Since I got it from the wild, the stems are very thin, but the smell is very very strong.

2. Cut the white bottom part of the lemon grass into small pieces. Take the required amount of ginger and remove the skin.

3. Pound the lemongrass and ginger in a mortar and pestle. Don't pound it too finely.

4. Boil water, once it boils add the pounded mixture.

5. Once the color of the water changes and the whole kitchen is filled with lemongrass aroma remove and strain. Add honey to taste. Voila! Your lemongrass tea is ready!

NOTES:
  • Always use fresh lemongrass stems while making this tea.
  • It tastes very good, even without honey.

    1. Drying is a good idea! Though there will be slight change in taste when you make the lemon grass tea with dried ingredients, it will taste good too. But make sure to dry the ingredients well, else the ingredients will spoil easily....

  8. Hi I have a lemon grass in my home. But before reading this post I didn't know how to use it. Thanks. But I think it has many uses. Like using it for flavoring dishes like coriander leaves. So only the stem means should we cut the whole plant for preparations. I thought the leaf also edible part. Why should not we use the leaves?

    1. Lemon grass leaves are not soft like coriander leaves to be used in dishes as a garnish but we can use the leaves to steam foods like fish and veggies. You can also use the leaf to make tea and can also use it for steaming when we have a cold or headache...
