10 AMAZING HAIR, SKIN & HEALTH BENEFITS & USES OF GHEE | CLARIFIED BUTTER:
1. GHEE FOR EYES:
I still remember one of my neighbors used to apply ghee above her eyelids and around the eyes every single day. Her eyes used to be bright and moist all the time, she used to leave it the whole night on her eye lids, but you can just use it before bath, leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and wash it off. This will treat dark eye circles and keep the skin around the eyes supple and soft.
2. GHEE FOR ECZEMA:
Eczema is a condition in which the skin becomes red and inflamed. The main thing about eczema is the intense itching and irritation of the skin. Massaging the affected area with ghee before bath will greatly help in controlling the redness and inflammation.
3. GHEE FOR HAIR GROWTH:
Ghee is very effective in treating split ends. Split ends happen because we don’t nourish our hair. Chemical treatments and products also dry out our hair causing split ends. This homemade treatment with desi ghee will greatly help in treating split ends. Warm the ghee slightly and apply to the ends of the hair, wait for an hour before shampooing and conditioning the hair.
4. GHEE FOR SKIN:
If you have very dry skin, then ghee will come to the rescue very effectively. Just warm up ghee in a pan and massage your whole body with it before bath. Do this treatment regularly, especially during winter time and your skin will be smooth, soft and supple.
5. GHEE FOR COOKING:
Ghee tastes wonderful and in certain dishes nothing can be substituted for ghee. As I mentioned before we use it along with our dhals and for making traditional sweets. Even for making sweets, we make sure that the ghee is prepared fresh before making the sweet for best taste and flavor. Most of out traditional sweets have jaggery and ghee, both which are very goof for health. I have never once fallen ill eating homemade sweets made with pure ghee and jaggery.
6. GHEE FOR HEALTH IN AYURVEDA:
Though ghee is great when applied externally, it is best when it is consumed. Ghee is regarded very highly in ayurvedha. Ghee is rich in vitamin a, vitamin d and vitamin e, all of which gives us healthy bones and keep us from falling ill. Try consuming homemade ghee along with your dhals. We were always advised that dhals digest better, when consumed with ghee.
7. GHEE FOR WEIGHT GAIN & WEIGHT LOSS:
Ghee when consumed with high calorie foods will aid in weight gain. If you want to gain weight try consuming calorie dense food along with ghee. The surprising thing is ghee also can help in weight loss. When you consume a little of ghee along with a sensible diet, it actually aids in weight loss and I was very happy that even nutritionists nowadays advice people on a diet to consume ghee.
8. GHEE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN, KIDS & BABIES:
Pregnant women should include ghee in their diet. I was advised by my grandma to consume ghee daily throughout my pregnancy. Ghee keeps both the mother and the baby strong & healthy. Once you start introducing solid foods to babies, include ghee for babies. Here in m,y place, I have never seen a mother feed her child in the afternoon without adding ghee. I think instead of using refined fats and oils, we should consume a little ghee everyday to stay healthy and strong.
9. GHEE FOR DARK LIPS:
I actually massage my lips with ghee during winter months to prevent the lips from chapping. Massaging the lips with ghee also prevents dark lips. If you are already suffering from it, a daily massage with pure homemade desi ghee will lighten dark lips very effectively.
10. GHEE FOR DRY COUGH:
Like I mentioned before, we use ghee in home remedies. One such home remedy is for treating dry cough. This method is so effective that it is practiced all over Tamil Nadu. For this remedy, pepper corns are dry roasted in empty kadai, powdered finely and mixed with ghee. This paste, if taken once or twice gives good relief from dry cough

Hi Ramya, I prepare ghee buy collecting cream from the milk for about a week and then heating it till the moisture has gone. Does this method of preparing have any health benefits? I did try churning butter and then preparing ghee but all in vain as I do not get fresh milk in my area,we only get packet milk. Please suggest
Hi Hazel Valli,No matter what method we use to prepare ghee, the quality of the ghee and it's health benefits depends on the quality of the milk. Ghee made from organic, grass fed milk has the most benefits and in my personal experience the best taste too….. 🙂

Hello Ramya..Article says kadukkapodi helps in controlling blood sugar but in one of your answers you say diabetics should not take it regularly? Why is that so? Pls explain further
What I meant was kadukkai powder should be taken with caution by diabetic patients as taking both kadukkai powder and diabetic medications at the same time will lower their blood sugar levels too much. Diabetic patients should closely monitor their blood sugar levels if taking kadukkai and I would suggest doing it under medical supervision…
