Avarampoo Benefits: Face Wash Powder (Ubtan) For Glowing Skin

Avarampoo (Tamil Name) is a wonder flower that we all overlook to use in our daily lives. Avarampooo is  called Tanner's - Cassia in English, Tangedu in Telugu, and Taravar in Hindi. It's botanical name is Cassia  Auriculata. Avarampoo grows wildly everywhere and usually it is found plenty near the river beds. There is a small stream near our farm and I love to go for walks there and there are plenty of avarmpoo near the stream. It is very serene there, especially when the water is flowing. I love to look at the avarampoo flowers and usually they are in full bloom throughout the year. Avarampoo flowers are very cooling and both the leaves and flowers are used for home remedies, I have heard my grandma say that in her days, many people use to use avarampoo leaves for washing the hair. Since India  is a very hot country, herbs that cooled the body were treasured and used very often in day to day life. If you are living in a city where you can't find avarampoo, try visiting a village near by, I am sure you will find plenty of avarampoo there. Dry avarampoo very well and you can store and use it for a long time. Avarampoo is wonderful for using in external application and it treats many skin problems. It keeps the skin from infections and the best way to use it for external application is by including it in face wash powder. This face wash powder has been used by Indian women for years and this face wash powder prevents black spots, treats uneven skin tone and regular use keeps the skin blemish free. This face wash powder has got 6 amazing ingredients - avarampoo, bengal gram dal, urad dal, kasthuri manjal, vetiver and organic rose petals. Bengal gram dal and urad dal are amazing cleansers, vetiver is a natural coolant and prevents boils on the skin, avarampoo and kasthuri manjal prevents infections in the skin. This powder is also very very fragrant and is wonderful for all types of skin. This face wash powder like most recipes in this blog, needs plenty of sunlight for sun drying. If the ingredients are not sun dried properly, you will not be able to powder it finely. Grinding the mixture to a very smooth powder is very very important. Try to make it in small batches and use regularly to see good results. This powder can be safely used on young kids too. For boys and men, skip kasthuri manjal in the face wash powder.

 METHOD:
1.Collect avarampoo flowers and rose petals and sun dry till crisp. Make sure the rose petals are not sprayed with pesticides.

2. Sun dry avarampoo flowers, bengal gram dal, urad dal in a plate till dry.

3. Sun dry vetiver root, rose petals and kasthuri manjal till crisp.

4. Powder every thing together well and sieve to get a very fine powder. Store in an airtight box and use daily.

NOTES:
  • Powder it immediately after sun drying, while the ingredients are still crisp from sun drying.
  • Make sure to sieve to get a fine powder.
  • Use pesticide free paneer variety rose petals for it's amazing fragrance.

  1. Ramya since all the ingredients are dry do we have to mix it with milk. Will it leave a drying effect on skin? Looking forward to more face washes and cleansers.

  2. Aparna, I have normal to dry skin and this powder did not dry my skin at all when used with water. But during winter time, it will be a good idea to mix it with milk, especially if your skin is very dry....

  4. Hi, As far as I know, there is no cream or a face pack that will change the skin color that we are born with, but regular use of fair packs and a healthy diet will brighten the skin tone. Try the homemade bleach in the blog regularly. For hair fall, start with gentle hair massage every day with homemade hair oils (try curry leaf hair oil) and use a hair pack weekly twice to strengthen the hair roots along with a healthy diet....

    1. Hi Sree, In home remedies, kathuri manjal is one of the best ingredient to brighten the skin tone. Ask her to use it regularly everyday at least for 2 to 3 months, also try to mix the powder with curd if she has a dry skin, as curd is also a gentle and natural bleach. But above all please remember that we can never change the color of the skin tone we are born with drastically.......

I'm Gayathri from Bangalore, I saw your blogs recently and looks very impressing, planning to prepare the Rose Petal bath powder :)
My second daughter is 2 year and she has a very dry skin, it turns darker without any moisturizer and some of them even make the skin look dark. I'm now trying with the ingredients for daily bath : besan powder, turmeric powder, little almond powder(grinded at home). Will this help ?

    1. The mixture sounds good, if you can try including avarampoo in it too. You can also try massaging her skin with pure warm homemade coconut oil before bath, this will keep her skin moisturized, smooth and blemish free.
